Can VY Become the Starting
Quarterback in Tennessee Again?
Week 1 of the 2008 season couldn't have gone worse for Vince Young. In a winning effort Vince was injured and later that week contemplated retirement. While Young did not retire, his comments had to make management feel a little uneasy about Young and his future in football. In Young's 33 games in the pro's he has had 22 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns. However, in that time #10 has also amassed 32 interceptions (he's never had a year of more TD passes than interceptions) and a quarterback rating of 68.8%.
While those numbers aren't very good to his credit the Titans never supplied him with any receivers to throw the ball with. At least not until this year when they selected first round pick Kenny Britt from Rutgers.
Vince Young's Fantasy Football Value in 2009
Right now VY isn't going to start the season for the Tennessee Titans, as it is Kerry Collins show. How ever I do believe Collins has given the Titans and Vince the greatest gift they could have had in this time. For one Kerry managed the Titans to the NFL's best record in 2008 and for two he will give Young time to develop quietly. This quiet development (physically and mentally) in my opinion, will help Young become a star again like he was at Texas. Vince has all the tools in my mind to be a solid player and a great leader.
While it's true his personality is a bit laid back and easy going, no one can deny his heart. He just needs to not doubt his ability's, and then he can use his natural common sense on the field to win games for the Titans.
As for this season Vince should only be held on fantasy football teams that are desperate and have Collins on their team already. However, if Young gets an opportunity to play this year, I do believe he will be worth a waiver pickup in deeper leagues. Beyond that Vince needs better receiver play to become a top 15 fantasy quarterback in his career.
