Colts Under Go Great Change

The Colts have endured much change in the 2009 off-season. First Head Coach Tony Dungy retired and soon after that the Colts release Hall of Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison. But maybe the next two loses after these may be even for pivotal to the Colts offense. In May the Colts long time offensive line coach Howard Mudd retired. Soon after that long time offensive coordinator Tom Moore retired as well. The reason both men retired is because the NFL changed it's polices on the retirement plan for coaches in the National Football League. This prompted both men to walk away from an organization they have shared so much success with.

What will happen from here isn't known yet as I write this column in the middle of May. But it is easy to see that when you have this kind of change after such stability over so many years you can't help but feel the ripples of it's effect. I personally can see this situation's effect felt most buy a noticeable lack of chemistry on the field at times. Even though most of the players on the Colts have been together for awhile, they will go through adjustments between themselves and the coaches. This could lead to all to often times of seeing Payton Manning walking to the sidelines shaking his head. Maybe even needing to burn timeouts earlier in games because of friction in the play calling. For this season it may be best for the Colts to let Payton call his own plays all together. He has the ability to do this and to some degree has been implementing this for his entire career anyway. Maybe they should give Manning two contracts, one for being a player and two for being the offensive coordinator.

Reggie Wayne's Fantasy Football Value in 2009
Despite all the changes in Indianapolis one thing still remains the same and that is the Manning to Wayne connection. No matter what happens between coaches and players Peyton won't lose his ability to find Reggie in the offense. Personally I think Wayne may be headed to a return to his 2007 totals because in my mind the Colts were not aggressive enough last year. Yes, they need to strike fear back into their opponents and let them know despite all the changes they can still hurt you. Look for Reggie as a back end #1 wide receiver for your fantasy team this year. Fantasy teams in your league may slide on Wayne because of all the turnover in the Colts coaching staff, so you may even steal him as your #2. In the end Reggie's production will be fine and that is what matters to a fantasy football owner in the end.
