Much Turnover In 2009 Off-Season
2008 saw Peyton collect another MVP trophy and another early exit in the playoffs against the San Diego Chargers. However, in the off-season the Colts lost Head Coach Tony Dungy to retirement. Then they released Hall of Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison. If those key loses weren't enough, in May both Manning's offensive coordinator Tom Moore and offensive line coach Howard Mudd retired.
I believe these losses will impact Manning and the offense most in that the players and the coaches won't always be on the same page. You should see Manning at times shaking his head coming off the field or needing to burn time outs when he wouldn't usually. Hopefully, this lack of chemistry doesn't become disastrous in that Manning get hurt because of taking extra shots from missed assignments by the line.

Aside from all the coaching changes Manning still knows how to find his receivers. He still has great tools around him in Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark. However, look for the 3rd year man from Ohio State Anthony Gonzalez to take a major step forward in his progression. Anthony will now be playing full time in Marvin Harrison's old position on the field. This I believe is a bonus for Manning's value as Harrison looked very long in the tooth last year and only started because of his name. #18 is a year removed from his knee injury, which will only help him in his quest for success in 2009 as well.
Drafting Manning in the 4th or 5th round in this year's fantasy football draft makes a lot of sense. Let's face it Manning while he did have an MVP season (only because it was a down year in the NFL) he just wasn't the explosive quarterback we are used to seeing in fantasy. Last season was the first time in a long time he missed 30 touchdowns (27) and with all the changes to the team one has to be a little cautious about drafting him too high. However, if you get him in the 4th round or so that is a great value for this guy.
Fantasy Assets:
- Touchdown Maker
- Throws for 4,000 yards a year
- Good Offense around him
- Plays in a Dome
Fantasy Liability's:
- Lost Marvin Harrison
- Lots of Turnover in the Coaching Staff
- Not as Aggressive as he once was
