Smith Shows His Heart and Passion in 2008
The 2008 Detroit Lions became the first team in history to go without a win in a 16 game schedule. This was an even more brutal situation given the fact that the Lions were celebrating their 75th season as a franchise. Everything went wrong except for two players and one of those was wide receiver Calvin Johnson. Calvin amassed over 1,300 yard receiving and 12 touchdowns in his second year for Detroit. The second player that didn't go wrong was rookie running back Kevin Smith. For all intents and purposes Kevin's 976 yards rushing, 4.1 yards per carrie and 8 touchdowns was a great year on a team like this. Not to also add Smith sprinkled in 39 receptions in his rookie campaign as well.
What really impressed me the most about Kevin is his passion for the game. Every week Smith would be very focused and committed about wanting to win that first game. While that win never came it's drive and determination like his that makes a leader in sports. Look for good things from Smith in the future.
Kevin Smith Fantasy Football Value in 2009
Smith will build on his 2008 numbers, especially in total rushing yards for the season. No doubt he will benefit again from defenses having to play back in coverage because of Calvin Johnson. With safetys back Kevin can pound through the offensive line and rack up the yardage. For 2009 I see #34 as a very capable #3/ flex play in standard leagues. He will also make a fine #2 in deep fantasy leagues as well.

- 20 or more touches a game
- Great #1 Wide Receiver
- Good Hands to Catch the Ball
