Manning Loses His Top Target
The Giants got out to a hot start in 2008 but at the end of November Plaxico Burriss shot himself at a night club. This ended Burriss's season and ended the Giants real chance's of a repeat. In the off-season the Giants released Burriss from the team. Manning was never a top end quarterback for fantasy, but he was a guy that was always an option for fantasy owners because of Plaxico. It's not that the other receivers are not talented in New York but they needed a true number one receiver to take pressure off of them from opposing defenses.
In the 2009 draft Eli did receive help from the Giants when they selected the big receiver Hakeem Nicks from the North Carolina Tar Heels. Nicks broke just about every record in Tar Heel receiving history in his time there. This is the type of receiver Manning needs if he is to find his fantasy value again. Not to also add the Giants' success as a team.
Eli Manning's Fantasy Value in 2009
For this season Eli should be viewed as nothing but a waiver pick up in your fantasy league. If Nicks and his other receivers start filling the shoes left by Burriss effectively Manning might be a good bye week fill in. However, even if they do play well New York is just to committed to the run for Manning to be counted on for long. I wouldn't recommend drafting Manning even in a deep league, unless you are desperate (or your Eli himself, and you play fantasy football).
