Williams breaks out for 20 touchdowns!
DeAngelo broke out in a big way at the early mid part of the last season. Finally showing the skills that made him a first round pick for the Carolina Panthers just a few years ago. Williams was truly the MVP of fantasy down the stretch of the season consistently going for multiple touchdowns and 100 yard rushing days. Williams finished the season with a league high 20 touchdowns and solid 1515 yards rushing.
For some reason, I thought this man from Carolina was a really good pass catcher. However, boy if he is the Panthers sure don't seem to utilize him well with only 22 receptions last year and 23 the year before that. However, pass catching skills aren't the worst problem fantasy managers should be concerned with.
DeAngelo Williams Fantasy Football Value in 2009
The "Big Cancer" Williams has to deal with is going to be one Johnathon Stewart. Stewart was a young first round pick from the Oregon Ducks last year with a bad foot. However, going into spring training this year Stewart is fully healthy and very explosive. Most of DeAngelo's touchdowns as noted before came towards the end of the year when Stewart was maybe a little tired as a rookie. However, Johnathon is clearly the man best physically suited for goal line duty's going forward. If #34 loses his chances to plunge the stripe from the one yard line, he will have to do it from a distance.
His fantasy ranking is still in the top ten as he has shown just too much skill to go any further down in the draft than that. However, this battle for touches could drive you crazy from week to week this season. If, for some reason, Stewart should happen on another injury Williams would turn into the #1 stud fantasy runner in football again.
